All about me

Hello dear visitors,
I'm Perpetue (Peppy for short) and I'm a mother of two and I want to help you with the proper care of your afro hair.

I used to have the typical hairstyles. Hair extensions, grids, straight hair relaxed and so on. Why? Because I just didn't know that my hair could look beautiful naturally. I was always taught that afro hair is not beautiful and so like many others I tried to emulate the beauty ideal.

The story of my hair was never a beautiful one. I noticed how my family was overwhelmed by the care and showed no compassion. The hair was pulled and torn while combing that I cried. For my mom there was no gentler way to treat the hair, because she didn't know any better. And just one look at friends and acquaintances showed me that no one wore their own Afro hair with pride. The only "naturals" were shorn short and the rest wore wigs or hair extensions. There was no trace of afro hair.

In 2011 I had my hair the last time with cream chemically relaxed. This often resulted in painful burns due to the aggressive chemistry. Then I realized for the first time the vicious circle in which I was stuck. The cream and wrong care destroyed my hair so much that I was forced to hide the damage with fake hair. I thought "How can it be that all people in the world wear their natural hair and it is not possible for Africans?"

It couldn't go on like this and I started my research that day. At that time, there were not many German sources on the topic of Afro hair.

On May 7, 2012, I cut my broken hair down to my naturally grown curls for the first time. I will never forget that date. It took about 3 months for the hair to get that far. By the way, in English it's called a big chop.

On the following working day I felt like on my first day at school. Only this time I was alone. Many of my work colleagues hardly recognized me. But the reactions were clear. All my light-skinned colleagues and friends thought that my hair looked sooooo beautiful. All my dark-skinned friends thought my hair looked terrible. They gave me a week until I come back to work with grid.

Now after 10 years I am still natural and never fell off the wagon. In the time I was always looking for the right hair products. DM and Rossmann took some products in the program and the natural look and the knowledge about it spread more and more.

Today I can not believe what unnecessary ordeal I had exposed my hair so many year. And I am so glad that I will spare my children this experience. Today I can talk to my kids normally about their hair and they never had the desire to straighten their hair or have straight hair like some friends.

My advice to you: Teach your children self-confidence in relation to their hair from an early age. It is very important that children understand at an early age what makes their hair so special and what they need to pay attention to. Negative comments or sayings like "Your hair looks so bad again." quickly settle in the little ones and promote the wrong thoughts.

Otherwise, I am always there for your problems, questions and suggestions. Besides our contact form you can also reach me via our Facebook group or WhatsApp. Otherwise, you can also leave your comments under the blog posts.
